Greater Calm. Increased Confidence.
In individual therapy, I specialize in helping people who identify themselves as struggling with anxiety — and often, their self-esteem — to feel less controlled by worry, fear, and self-doubt, so that they can experience greater calm and increased confidence in their relationships, their work, and other areas of their lives.
What’s my approach?
I believe there is always more than one way to look at things; moreover, I contend, the ways we see things matter.
In any situation, we can choose to look at things in ways that work for the kind of experience we want to have, how we want to live our lives, the type of person we want to be, and more. The ways we look at things both influence and are influenced by the conversations we have — with ourselves, usually in the form of thoughts — and with other people. In therapy or counseling, we can have conversations that help make a difference in how we see things by giving us a chance to think and talk in new ways. With these new ways of thinking and talking often comes a greater sense of self-agency and possibility in our lives. Problems dissolve, and we see options for action that we didn’t before.
When you and I meet, I will treat you as the expert on your own life and experiences, what is important for us to discuss, and the goals of our conversations. My expertise lies in facilitating a collaborative process of transformative dialogue on the topics of your concern. I will listen to you, check my understandings of what you say, ask you questions about what you tell me, and share my own thoughts aloud. I invite you to do the same with me. I believe the differences you are seeking in your life — the freedom from anxiety and self-doubt, and the greater calm and increased confidence – can be the exciting and natural consequences of these kinds of give-and-take, in-it-together conversations.
Thinking about therapy? I offer free 20-minute consultations over the telephone to give us the chance to get to know each other better — for me to learn more about you, your situation, and what you’re looking for in therapy, and for you to ask me any questions you may have. We’ll then decide if and how we want to proceed together in terms of scheduling and other considerations.
I charge $120 for a 50-minute session. If you want to work with me and require financial consideration to do so, please let me know; I may have openings for clients at reduced rates.
Payment is expected at the time of your appointment. You can pay by check, credit card, cash, a Health Savings Account (HSA), or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
I do not process paperwork for insurance claims; however, I can provide you with receipts that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Be certain that you understand your coverage before you schedule your first appointment with me, and let me know if you are going to want a receipt. You can check your coverage by asking the following questions, among others, of your insurance company:
- Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
- What is my deductible and has it been met?
- How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
- What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
- Is approval required from my primary care physician?
If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment, and you have not notified me at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session.
I value and honor diversity, and welcome the opportunity to work with clients regardless of race or ethnicity, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, economic status, physical or mental special needs or challenges, or other aspects of our uniqueness as human beings.
Please feel free to contact me.
